October Newsletter

Hello Escondido Soccer Club and FC Heat families,

In this edition of the newsletter you will find quite a lot of information that you may need to review more closely. All of this is available on our Websites: FCHeat.org and EscondidoSoccerClub.com.

Our new, redesigned website is up and running! The website offers a handful of great resources for the coaches and member of this club such as lesson plans for coaches, fundraising help, recreational/competitive news, and more! Check it out!

Quality not Quantity

Looking back to when my children were around 6 years-old and I was a volunteer Rec coach, I remember my first practice session with my team. We had just been given our uniforms and all the parents were sitting around our practice field. I was having a little huddle with the six-year old players to help us decide what name we were going to call ourselves. Little did I know that my accent would get me into trouble.

“I know…” I said, “We can call ourselves the Hunters, because our shirts are Hunter green and we will hunt down our opponents. What do you guys think?”
“YEEEAAH!” They all shouted in agreement.
So I got them all to stand up and huddle together and do a cheer to impress upon their parents that this team had arrived.
“1, 2, 3!” I shouted
“HOOTERS” They all shouted.
“No, no, no! Not Hooters, Hunters.” I said, looking nervously around at the parents who had very worried looks on their faces. Then to top it off, one of the dads shouted “I’d like to see the team mom.”

Oh boy, those were the days. But we have come a long way since then. Both of my children are now on the second year of college and I am on my 5
th year as Director of Coaching. I am very happy to announce that the club has decided to keep me around until 2023, which is when I plan on serving more in an ambassadorial role to help us achieve our future goals.

I love this club and I hope we are around for a very long time.

This year we are very proud to have improved our Website; EscondidoSoccerClub.com, which is more of a one-stop-shop that houses all of our important information. It is somewhat interactive, where our latest stories, tournaments and events will be listed and announced. Also our newsletters and photographs of achievers will be displayed here. Check it out and let us know what ya’ll think. Michaela Krams and our Webmaster have put in an immense amount of work to get this looking as good as it does.

We are looking to add more females to our family of coaches, especially in the Competitive area where we will be putting much more effort into the Girls Program going forward. We are always open to any suggestions and constructive criticism that will help us grow stronger.

Next events on the calendar this year are Super Soccer Saturday and our End of Season Party, which will be on November 9
th, 2019. A basket auction will take place, so we are asking all of our Recreational and Competitive teams to donate a basket where all money made will benefit our Club Scholarship Fund.
We would like to express our thanks to all of the volunteers who have helped get us where we are today and for all of the parents for their support. We have come a long way and we have a long way to go. Our main goal is to help all of our children achieve all of their dreams, not just in soccer, but in life itself.

Steve Yorke – Director of Coaching

Super Soccer Saturday is scheduled for November 9th and will include the End of Season Party for all recreational and competitive teams. Come enjoy jumpies in the Fun Zone, Team Food Booths and Team Awards all day long, with a Beer Garden, DJ, Video Game Truck and more added in the afternoon and evening. More info to come soon!

Team baskets will be auctioned during Super Soccer Saturday, with a Grand Prize raffle for a free 2020 soccer registration (1 competitive winner, 1 recreational winner). Each recreational and competitive team will be required to donate a basket to the auction, so start thinking about what your team wants to create!

All-Star season will be starting in November. We would love it if you came by to support our All-Star teams in the following tournaments:
La Jolla All-Stars 12/6-12/7
Scripps Ranch All-Stars 12/14-12/15
New Years Kick Off at Ryan Park 1/4-1/5

We hope to see you there!

Recently, we have started experiencing a shortage in licensed referees in the area.

If you are a licensed referee and looking to referee at Ryan Park, click here to sign and start working!

If you are unlicensed or need to renew your license, go to the Cal South referee section and click on ‘online registration’ under “Becoming a Referee.” You will be guided on how to apply from there!

This is a great way for those 13 and older to start earning some money on the weekends!

We are currently looking for people to join our board to fill some available positions! Our Annual General Meeting will be coming up soon. If you are interested in joining our board, contact Jessica Escobedo for more information.
